I have been teaching Pilates for 15 years and I absolutely love it.  I have developed my own unique way of offering the exercises.

I think of my style as active mindfulness, my focus is restorative movement. I bring a deep focus on breath, relaxation and mind body connection. I encourage postural alignment, lengthening of muscles & limbs combined with  strengthening and flow.

All of my classes are multi level,  everyone is encouraged to work to their own ability.  I keep my class sizes small, so I can give individual tuition as appropriate.

In group classes, I generally start with some breathing and centring, adding postural awareness, joint mobilisations, and sweeping spiral awakeners for shoulders, ankles, pelvis, hips and rib cage.  Moving on to the floor for core strengtheners, disguised as deliciously supportive and nourishing movements which feel  great.

We could be lying on our backs, or on all fours, on our front, or side or even kneeling.

I love to create a flow, a safe space - its all about calming the nervous system after all -

My classes are quietly focussed & hopefully deeply relaxing, also pleasingly taxing with humour simmering not far beneath the calm surface.

Sometimes we just need to connect with ourselves again and feel how we are feeling.

Other times we need to engage full warrior mode and kick some core strength ass.

In my classes you are encouraged to feel your own body, from inside - (interoception) and begin to learn what you personally require, in that moment,  to support and nourish yourself from within.

I decided to train in Pilates, as a response to seeing people in pain in my massage clinic. and wanting to help them recover.

With massage I could only help people so far, I knew, for full recovery and lasting results, each person had to take responsibility for their own healing and so I wanted to help people understand how posture, muscular imbalance, emotional holding patterns, breath  (or lack of it)  and fatigue were all contributors to their suffering.

Only an approach that addressed all of these elements in a holistic way could bring about lasting improvements.  So I learned to teach the Pilates method.

Over the years I have begun to adapt and evolve the exercises to suit todays demands.  I'm a fluid intuitive teacher, responding to the body's in front of me and the mood therein.

I'm a real anatomy nerd - a body geek, I love all things body related and all my adult life I have delved  into the world of movement and hands on bodywork, taking inspiration  from many schools of  thinking, including Rolfing, myofascial release,  Somatics, Feldenkrais, Mov Nat, Ido Portal,  Tai Chi, Yoga, Alexander Technique and many more movement & bodywork  modalities.

For me, a  movement practice is as much about   mental health, as it is for building strength and mobility.  If I'm feeling blue, then I know that movement will always make me feel better.

I also know that if we do not move our body's restoratively at least once or twice a week, we are creating pain for the future!

I love to move but I do understand that it is not easy to tend to a daily movement practice with a busy life. This is why I love to teach, so people have a regular class to attend, feeling that they have a supportive movement community they belong in and enjoy coming to once a week.

You can't beat the feeling.
